The federal murder-for-hire trial involving Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk (born Durk Banks) has reached a critical turning point as key co-defendants and associates take the witness stand for the prosecution.

During recent court proceedings in Los Angeles, two men linked to the August 2022 shooting at a West Hollywood gas station—which targeted rival rapper Quando Rondo and ultimately killed his 24-year-old cousin, Saviay'a "Lul Pab" Robinson—provided explosive testimony. Among them was Kavon Grant, a longtime close associate of Durk, who delivered direct testimony pointing the finger straight at the Chicago artist.

The defense attorneys are pushing back hard, questioning witness credibility and pointing to internal contradictions.

Kavon Grant - "Durk Told Us To"

Kavon Grant — also known as "Cuz" or "Vonnie" — took the stand today, and detailed his rule and ties to Durk and his direct involvement in the 2022 shooting. When federal prosecutors asked Grant why he participated in the violence, his response was direct: "Durk told us to."

The statement directly counters the main argument put forward by Durk's legal team earlier in the trial. Defense attorneys framed Grant as the sole mastermind who independently organized and executed the attempt on Quando Rondo's life, something that Grant dinied stating that members of the Only The Family (OTF) collective would have traveled to Los Angeles to carry out a murder simply on his authority.

As presented at the court as evidence, Grant began working closely with Durk around 2018, spending approximately 90% of his time with the rapper on a daily basis. In early 2021, Grant was officially listed on Durk’s payroll as a personal assistant, he (Grant) was responsible for driving Durk, getting food, shopping and coordinating travel arrangements.

While these ties can not automatically prove Durk's direct involvement in every instance, Grant testified that he provided Durk with stolen firearms and sold him a stolen white jeep (that was later wrapped in vinyl to alter its visual appearance).

These proceedings are once more highlighting something the street culture can not hide no more, and that the narrative built in years that romanticized silence and unwavering justice to the street might be all false. Once again we see if street members are faced with federal indictment and potential life imprisonment they will fold and most of them will cooperate with prosecutors.

For Lil Durk, whose artist identity and global career were built on street authenticity, the very environment that shaped his music now is turning on him.
